eBay A rare 32mm Rolex Oyster Royal ‘Shock – Resisting’ circa 1951. Reference 6044 vintage Rolex wristwatch is a handsome mid-sized steel Gents manually wound wristwatch retaining the original Super Oyster crown which was manufactured by Rolex for a limited period of 2/3 years. Has benefited from a service by a master horologist, with no issues to report in excellent running order keeping accurate time ready to treasure and enjoy! This is a cracking pre-loved well used vintage Rolex watch. Rare silvered dial has patina across the surface. The aged luminous Arabic numerals and the 1/5th of a scale chapter ring add a great contrast to the main dial surface with the lume filled blue steel dauphine hands and a tapered steel sweeping seconds hand having a wonderful aged appearance. The rare model reference ‘6044’ has a scooped bezel which contrasts with the majority of other Oyster models from the period which tended to have chamfered, rounded or flat bezels. The case back is flat with a milled edge finish. The Original Dial: Signed Rolex Oyster Royal Shock – Resisting. Superb creamy Patina to dial. Rolex silvered dial with aged luminous Arabic numerals. 1/5th scale 5- 60 minute markers to outer chapter ring. Lume inserts to the elegant blue hands the hands contrast well with the silvered steel sweep centre seconds hand. The aged patinated dial has marks and imperfections all over commensurate with age and wear giving it a charming vintage look. Please observe photographs carefully. Original Movement: Signed Rolex 15 rubies Swiss made. In any field, be it vintage wristwatches, period motorcars or antique fishing reels, there are definite classics that are universally acknowledged to be key units that are of the utmost historical significance. The movement in this watch, Rolex’s 10.5 ligne ( the ligne is the unit of width measurement traditionally used in the Swiss watch industry) Hunter, fits into this revered category perfectly, and is, without doubt, the most important mechanism that the company has ever created. Launched in 1923, the hand wound Hunter was the movement that replaced the venerable Rebberg that had powered the firm’s officers’ watches of the World War I era. It was the mechanism fitted to the first waterproof Rolex Oyster model of 1926 and, quite remarkably, remained in production until 1969. This long manufacturing span wasn’t in any sense because Rolex rested on its laurels in terms of innovation and research, far from it, but simply because the Hunter was so right from its first moments that there really wasn’t any feasible way of revising it. This movement has been fully overhauled by a Rolex specialist watchmaker with no issues to report, keeping accurate time and running perfectly. Original Case: Very clean Oyster case with a polished finish. Sharp downturned lugs in great condition. Case is 32mm without the crown, 34mm with the crown, and 17mm lug size. The serial number in between the lugs is 740*** dating the watch to 1951 on the Rolex date register. Bezel is in good condition for the age, case and bezel have surface scratches associated with polished stainless steel commensurate with everyday wear and age. Original Case Back Cover Inner: Signed in the old fashioned ornate style; Rolex Geneva Swiss Patented 6044 Stainless Steel STAYBRITE. In good condition. Historic service marker etchings present. Original Case Back Cover Outer: Fits flush and screws without any issues. Has surface hairline scratches commensurate with age and wear, there are no dents. Original Crown/Winder: Signed Rolex Super Oyster. Crown sets/winds smoothly. Overall good condition for age. Rare crown which was only made in limited numbers. Original Crystal: Domed plexiglass in good condition for age.
