Box of twelve Vintage Mercury Glass Christmas OrnamentsRare Double Star Indent ReflectorsLarge Size 3″ tall Pre – World War II ~ made between 1939 – 1941Shiny Brite made by Corning Glass Works ~ Made in the U. S. of A. Really RARE beauties! Five Silver Mercury Glass Double STAR Indents with rays ~ the two deep indent reflectors are painted pretty Green. Each ornament has a thick painted band of red around the middle with two thin green stripes above and below the indents. These are a large size ornament measuring 3 inches tall. Shiny Brite ornaments made by Corning Glass Works, New York. These ornaments were made between 1939 – 1941. The metal caps confirm that with the stamped words “MADE IN U. S. of A.”. Seven Silver Mercury Glass Double STAR Indents with rays ~ the two deep indent reflectors are painted pretty Pink. Each ornament has a thick painted band of blue around the middle with two thin yellow stripes above and below the indents. These are a large size ornament measuring 3 inches tall. Shiny Brite ornaments made by Corning Glass Works, New York. These ornaments were made between 1939 – 1941. The metal caps confirm that with the stamped words “MADE IN U. S. of A.” American made mercury glass Christmas ornaments were made by Corning Glass Works, New York for Shiny Brite from the late 1930’s to the early 1940’s Pre-World War II Era. These large, early USA ornaments are getting harder to find with each passing holiday season. Please remember these vintage ornaments are not new and have been used. Some oxidation and spotting of the mercury glass of ornament and of the pikes. Please remember that these vintage Christmas Ornaments are almost 85 years old! Ornaments will be wrapped in tissue and bubble wrap and packed in a vintage Shiny Brite ornament storage box shown in photos. Please examine each photo and enlarge them to get a better idea of the condition of these ornaments before you make your decision. ****************************************************************************** In 1939 England was at war with Nazi-controlled Germany and the British Navy set up blockadesthat effectively stopped any exports from war-torn Europe reaching the United States of America. Many Americans found their first wartime shortage was to be Christmas decorations. Up to this point, most of the Christmas decorations used by Americans came from Germany, Czechoslovakia or Japan.To cover this shortage, the Corning Glass Company started to produce round clear glass balls that were blown automatically by machine rather than hand blown by mouth as their European counterparts had been. Corning produced these new American made ornaments 24 hours a day and by 1944 they were making 40 million round glass ornaments per year. Corning then sold these glass blanks to other companies such as K & W Glass Works, Marks Brothers, and Shiny Brite, who in turn decorated, capped, boxed and resold thefinished Christmas ornaments to retail stores nationwide. During the early years of World War II the new American made Christmas ornaments did not look all that different from those still being produced today. From 1939 through 1941 the ornaments were shiny, thanks to being coated on their interior with a silver nitrate solution. These shiny glass balls were often decorated with painted stripes and topped with a metal cap embossed with “Made in the U.
