From Modest Mike’s Mods This listing is for our Ultimate Ibanez TS9. If you are looking for an Ibanez TS9, then look no further. Or go and look everywhere… and come back again. Just don’t wait too long! We can also modify your pedal! Just give us a call or shoot me a quick email for mod service information (see last picture, business card). When you first step on this TS9, you are going to hear the best sounding TS9, period. It’s got our best TS808 Plus mod. Yep, it’s got the 808 mods that everyone likes. This pedal also has the popular Keeley mods- twice the amount of available gain, and also the ability to clean up better when you back off the controls. We replace other capacitors and resistors with high quality metal film resistors and Panasonic caps, some with different values to improve the tone and eliminate noise. The op amp is replaced with the JRC4558D. And of course we put in a nice, bright, “water clear” blue LED. The LED is clear when the pedal is switched off, and a nice bright blue when switched on. There is a lot of talk about the “mid-range hump” from Tube Screamers. Some folks like it, others don’t, and this seems to become a big factor when deciding to buy or not to buy a Tube Screamer. When these pedals were first made back in the days I used to play (yep, I’m getting old), most amps did not have good mid-range capabilities. So the Tube Screamer was made to concentrate on the mid-range frequency. Our mods work to add more well-defined bass and clear highs. But the fun has just begun! We added a couple of more options: There is a switch for a bass boost. It is similar to that very subtle one found on a Keeley BD-2…but you can actually hear an obvious difference with this one. There is another boost switch. But you don’t need that…unless you want to rock! This switch gives you an asymmetrical clipping option (sounds meaner). You still can use the bass boost switch in this mode also, which means these 2 switches can give you a variety of sounds. Also, did you notice? We drilled this pedal, installed a 3PDT foot switch, and rewired it for true bypass! This seems to be a big selling point for some folks. True bypass is a good thing, but there is no need to go true bypass crazy. If you have several pedals in a chain, that’s like having a very long cable from your guitar to your amp. It is a good idea to have a few buffered bypass pedals mixed in there to keep your signal boosted. Here is a video clip of our modified TS9 without the true bypass. Take a listen.
