A fine antique Victorian solid 9k gold, black and white enamel memento mori mourning locket with original photograph and hair. Every part of this small and wonderful solid 9k yellow gold pendant has been filled with beautiful intricate work! The locket has lovely inlaid black and white enamel and shows an urn hanging from a chain above little engraved gold leaves with inlaid gold letters reading ‘In Memory Of’. The reverse has the most wonderfully intricate engraving work with a wreath of intertwined leaves against a backdrop of fine floral engravings, a shield at its center engraved with ‘JW SW’. The locket opens to reveal a glazed compartment with an original Victorian sepia photograph of a young woman with braided hair, opposite another glazed compartment displaying a lock of her hair wonderfully laid down to represent a single flower and highlighted with fine intertwined gold thread-a gorgeous little jewel! The locket is unmarked and tests for 9K gold. The locket measures about 22mm x 18mm. The total weight of the locket is approximately 5.2 grams. The locket is in general very good condition with a little wear and fleabites to the enamel. The hanging loop has been attached with solder a long time ago. The photograph has a little discoloration, the hair and gold work are in super condition. The locket closes well. Thanks for looking and please take a look at my other items!
