This enables comfortable reception outdoors or in a car. ■Power Save Function The power save function reduces current consumption by drastically shortening the time required to detect the presence or absence of a received signal. When AUTO is selected, the duty ratio is automatically changed if there is no signal for about 1 minute after the start of power saving to reduce battery drain during standby. ■Approximately 19 hours*2 of reception with alkaline batteries Approximately 15 hours*1 of reception is possible with the included Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries. With alkaline batteries, the IC-R5 can receive signals for approximately 19 hours*2, which is much longer than the IC-R5’s 10 hours (with alkaline batteries).1 AF output 50mW, external speaker (8Ω load) connected.2 Depends on the type of batteries, etc. ■High-speed scanning at 100 channels/second (in VFO mode) Scanning variations have been further enhanced. The IC-R5 has a high-speed scanning speed of 100 channels/second (in VFO mode), which is much faster than the previous model, IC-R5 (30 channels/second). This enables speedier signal capture. ■Various Scanning Functions Full scan – Band scan – Program scan – Auto memory light scan – Memory scan – Bank scan – SKIR scan – Priority scan – Tone scan – Link scan ■Blank line canceller Equipped with a blank line canceller that eliminates annoying blank line signals heard when no calls are made. The IC-R5’s airline canceller has been further enhanced (with the addition of Train2) to enable comfortable reception of a wider variety of railroad radio signals. Of course, the IC-R5 also supports MSK control signals used in MCA radios, etc., and has enhanced signaling functions.*The airline canceller and tone canceller functions do not detect all airline signals. ■VSC function (voice squelch control) The VSC function automatically skips over control signals, unmodulated signals, and other unintended signals during scanning, allowing only voice-emitting signals to be captured. It can also be used in conjunction with various signaling functions. ■AF Filter An AF filter is provided to suppress noise in the high frequency range for comfortable reception. This is especially useful when receiving weak signals or for long periods of time. ■Equipped with an external power supply terminal The included Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries can be charged using the battery charger (AC adapter/accessory) or the battery charger stand (optional BC-194) while receiving. It can also be used in a car by connecting a cigarette lighter cable (optional CP-18). ■Abundant memory & flexible bank system Equipped with 1300 channels of normal memory, 25 pairs of scan edges, 50 channels of memory for auto light scanning, and 200 channels of memory for auto light scanning. Furthermore, EEPROM is used to protect the memory contents even if the battery runs out. In addition, a flexible bank system is used to store up to 100 channels of normal memory. Up to 22 banks can be set. ■Built-in bar antenna for AM radio The built-in bar antenna for AM radio reception allows you to comfortably enjoy AM radio broadcasts without an external antenna. For FM radio broadcasts and other frequencies outside the medium wave band, the earphone cord can be used as an antenna. ■External control by CI-V is possible By using the optional CT-17, the IC-R6 can be connected to a PC with an RS-232C type serial port.
