SkLO Studio Art Glass, “LAVA” SCULPTURE or VASE, Signed “SkLo Pacific Life,” Designed in California, Made in Czech Republic. The light stand and any photo props are not included in this auction. Object: This auction is for a beautiful 6 1/2″ “lagoon” aqua and clear hand-blown glass sculpture from SkLO Studios’ line of “Lava” objects – a favorite of interior designers. This item could be used as a vase or displayed as an elegant objet d’art. There are small blown voids in the top and the bottom of this piece. The surface is smooth with gentle surface waves and the bottom is ground flat and polished. Photos cannot do justice to this piece. The first 3 photos and the last half display this vase on a light stand with a truer color which is less aqua tinted. The play of light creates kaleidoscopic or liquid movement, almost. This would surely be a most amazing and cherished piece for your art glass collection. The light stand is not part of this auction. Artist/Studio: SkLO Studio art glass combines modern California design with centuries-old Czech glass tradition. They design and manufacture handblown glass lighting and objects from their studios in Healdsburg, Northern California and the Czech Republic. Every SkLO product is made with a deep appreciation for the richness of its organic material and the historical craft tradition it embodies. SkLO art-glass objects are sculptural glass accessories handblown in the Czech Republic. Each one celebrates the ability of its material to capture kinetic moments in time and transform them into permanent expressions of beauty. SkLO was founded by husband-and-wife design team Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak, and visionary Pavel Hanousek. The three met in Healdsburg in 2009 and discovered they each had a passion for hand-blown glass so decided to create a multi-faceted studio focusing on glass lighting and accessory design. Sklo means “glass” in Czech. SkLO Studio designs are found in some of the finest interior design projects throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Source: online research Origin: Designed in Northern California, USA; made in Czech Republic Year: Unknown, estimate early 2010s; this specific piece/color appears discontinued Signed: Etched on the bottom is “Pacific Life,” and on the side near the base “SkLo.” Pattern: “Lava” Color: Clear and aqua blue called “lagoon.” The color is so much brighter, richer and warmer than photos show. Material: Hand-blown glass Surface: Smooth, undulating surface; ground and polished bottom; smooth, rounded top rim; crisper, sharper edged rim on the bottom void. Technique: Handmade blown glass Features: Ovoid form; gently rippled or undulating tactile surface; narrow, smooth top opening; wider, sharp-edged bottom opening; wide shoulder; etch signed at base and on the bottom Condition: Very good pre-owned condition, with no chips, cracks, rough edges or spots to note. Upon very close inspection we have found only one tiny, very hard to see surface scratch and it’s very hard to find. The overall condition is stunning. There is minor shelf wear to the bottom that doesn’t show in the photos. Odd black or white spots are reflections from the camera. Any irregularities in bubbles or surface are from the handmade process and not damage of any kind. Most of our items are estate finds and are in good to excellent used condition. Vintage, pre-owned items will not usually be in mint condition, but may show signs of age, use, or wear from being pre-owned and loved for many years. We try to describe any and all condition issues but may miss some. A defect not noted does not constitute an item “not as described.” Measurements: Measures 6 1/2″ high, 3 1/2″ in diameter at the widest with a 2 1/2″ diameter base. Each void (top and bottom) has a 1″ diameter opening.
