A striking and unusual vintage Art Deco Egyptian 800 silver Plique a Jour eagle and scarab pin, hallmarks for 1926. With an eagle, scarab and scorpion this gorgeous pin would have been a fabulous souvenir in the years directly following Howard Carter’s 1922 rediscovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb. This stunning Cairo, Egypt made solid 800 silver pin is modeled in the form of a wonderful Egyptian eagle with two arrows underneath with beautiful Plique a Jour enameled aqua, turquoise and light green colors throughout. The eagle’s head sits above an earth-colored Egyptian faience scarab bead with carved scorpion hieroglyphics on the reverse-fantastic! The pin is stamped ‘800’ twice on the reverse. The bar is hallmarked with the Egyptian mark for silver, a cat for Cairo, and date letter ‘B’ for 1926. The brooch measures approximately 2 1/8 inches inches across. The scarab bead is about 14mm x 9mm. The brooch weighs approximately 5.9 grams. The brooch is in excellent condition with the Plique a Jour enameling intact and all over general light wear.
