1870-S Liberty Gold Eagle NGC AU55 $10 This 1870-S Gold Eagle is an incredible find. She has been graded AU55 by NGC. The 1870-S is comparable in rarity to the 1868-S above and similarly it is virtually unknown any finer than XF with the majority of survivors only grading VF. Only 8,000 pieces were minted and perhaps half a dozen or so are believed to exist today in AU condition. According to the NGC Price Guide, as of October 2024, a 10 Dollar Gold Coin from 1870 in circulated condition is worth between $1700 and $32500. However, on the open market 1870 S Gold Eagles in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $60000. This fine AU55 example is priced far below The NGC price guide of $22,500.00.
